Cross Checks

Correct Call:	In high school and youth the shaft of the Defenders cross shouldn’t be resting on the Attack’s neck. If it is there momentarily then we have nothing. If there is a punching motion and this directly contacts at the head/neck than this is a minimum of a 2 minute non-releasable foul. If there is no punch/thrust than most likely we have a 30 second hold.
For this not to be a penalty:	No thrust, puncher hold and the stick is there there momentarily.
Game Level:	This should be called at every level.

Correct Call:	White #5 at :02 elapsed hit the face of Purple with what looks like the left hand. This is not an indirect hit but a direct hit which isn’t violent. Due to not being violent I would support a 1 minute non- releasable but by rule you could go 2 min non-releasable.  At :08 elapsed same player # 5 gets another shot in and this is also direct to the head. This player is not playing the ball but playing the opponents head. Would recommend a 2 minute non-releasable and the play is now dead with #5 going in for a minimum of 3 minutes.
For this not to be a penalty:	Check needed to land on the shoulder or chest.
Game Level:	This should be called at every level.

Correct Call:	Cross check to the head. 1-3 minutes non-releasable. This should land in the 1-2 minute area.
For this not to be a penalty:	Check needs to land in the chest area.
Game Level:	This should be called at all levels.

Correct Call:	Cross check, 1 minute non-releasable. The check starts low and ends up in the neck.
For this to not be a penalty:	Keep the hands from sliding up into the neck.
Game Level:	This could be called a more severe penalty on lower tiered games.

Correct Call:	Unnecessary roughness. 1 min. Possible 2-3 minutes if check was to the head or neck area. The on ball defenseman looks at the pick setter and then decides to cross check them.
For this to not be a penalty:	The on ball defenseman needs to keep his eyes on the ball and not on the pick. If the on ball defenseman does look at the pick setter, no violent contact should be made. Contact alone does not make this a penalty.
Game Level:	This should be called at all levels.

Correct Call:	Crosscheck to the head & neck area. 1-3 minutes Non Releasable. Two minutes should be considered for this.
For this not to be a penalty:	The check needs to be more on the chest, with the hands a little closer together.
Game Level:	This should be called a penalty on all game levels.
