Running Start – Defenseless Player

Correct Call: At the high school level this should be a defenseless player. The dark player’s head is down focusing on the ball, and the white player has a long running start when he hits the dark player. 2-3 minutes non-releasable.
For this not to be a penalty: The white player needs to stop before he gets to the dark player. When contact is made, it needs to not be violent or excessive. If contact is not violent or excessive and the dark player still falls down, after the white player stops before contact, this would not be a penalty.
Game Level:This should be called at every level.

Shaft to the neck

Correct Call: In high school and youth the shaft of the Defenders cross shouldn’t be resting on the Attack’s neck. If it is there momentarily then we have nothing. If there is a punching motion and this directly contacts at the head/neck than this is a minimum of a 2 minute non-releasable foul. If there is no punch/thrust than most likely we have a 30 second hold.

For this not to be a penalty: No thrust, puncher hold and the stick is there there momentarily.
Game Level:This should be called at every level.

Check to the head

Use the gear icon to adjust playback speed for slow motion

Correct Call: White #5 at :02 elapsed hit the face of Purple with what looks like the left hand. This is not an indirect hit but a direct hit which isn’t violent. Due to not being violent I would support a 1 minute non- releasable but by rule you could go 2 min non-releasable.
At :08 elapsed same player # 5 gets another shot in and this is also direct to the head. This player is not playing the ball but playing the opponents head. Would recommend a 2 minute non-releasable and the play is now dead with #5 going in for a minimum of 3 minutes.
For this not to be a penalty: Check needed to land on the shoulder or chest.
Game Level:This should be called at every level.

Players run into each other, but who caused it?

Correct Call: Interference. 30 second technical foul. At first glance it looks like the two white players run into each other. But on second look, the blue defender pushes the white player into the other white player.
For this not to be a penalty: If there was no collision and no interruption in their off ball movement there would be no penalty.
Game Level:This should be called at all levels.

Late hit or nothing at all?

Use the gear icon to adjust playback speed for slow motion

Correct Call: The contact is slightly late, could be unnecessary . There may be a cross check in here also. The Defensive player may have made contact with the gloved hand. In a high school game this is close. Sloppy game make the call, highly skilled/ close game could be a no-call. Remember this player though and if he does something like this again then get that call.
